A 2003 REAP scholar, Stephanie Fix was paired with Dr. Ted Wilson, from the Department of Biology at Winona
State University. She studied the effects of temperature and container type on the ascorbic acid degradation
in apple juice. Thai Doan, this year's other scholar performed research in collaboration with Becki Tlusty and
Peter Graham of the Rhizobium Research Laboratory at the University of Minnesota. As these words of praise from
one of the supervisors attests, REAP truly reaps rewards for all involved.
"Thank you for the opportunity to work with Thai Doan. Thai is an exceptional young man and has already
completed one quite detailed study, with very positive results. He certainly learns fast! It appears from
the study that one way to help prairie legumes establish in restoration sites is to apply the microorganisms
they need to the cereals used as cover crops in these situations. [REAP] has been a positive experience for
all involved."
